What is Rutland Kino?

Rutland Kino will be an independent cinema and cafe in the heart of Oakham. It will be Rutland’s first ‘full time’ cinema since the 1980s. It will have two screens both with really comfy seats, fantastic surround sound and the latest digital projection technology. We’ll show a whole variety of films, throughout the day, seven days a week.

In addition to this we’ll have a cafe serving delicious meals and drinks that can be enjoyed before, after or even during a film. We very much hope that Rutland Kino will become a hub for anyone who enjoys great films, great food and great company.

What films will you show?
As we’ll have two screens, we’ll be able to show a wide variety of films and documentaries as well as theatre productions, ballets, operas and sporting events.

Whether it's the latest releases, old classics or a live-streamed National Theatre production, we will have something to interest everyone.

Who’s it for?
Everyone! We’ll be open seven days a week from morning till late so there will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to catch a screening or just enjoy a bite to eat in our cafe. If you enjoy going to the cinema then Rutland Kino will be the place for you.

Will you have disabled access?
Yes. Our bigger screen is on the ground floor along with the cafe and both will have step-free access. The first floor will house our smaller screen and will have lift access.

Where will the cinema be?
The plan is to convert a building on Oakham's High Street. It’s close to the train station, the bus station and a pay and display car park and within easy walking distance of the shops.

When will you open?
That is TBC. We have a lot of money to raise before we can talk about an opening date. If you are interested to discuss investing then please get in touch with us at The business is set up for EIS and SEIS funding and we believe we have a compelling investment opportunity for those keen to support this venture.

What food will you serve?
From coffees and pastries in the morning to small plates, sharing boards and wine or beers in the evening – we definitely plan to offer more than the usual hot dogs and nachos. Some of our food will be designed so that you can take it into the cinema with you and bigger seats with wider armrests mean you won’t be having to juggle the food and wine on your lap as you settle in and enjoy the show!

How can I support?
If you believe you can support financially then please get in touch with us at and we’d be happy to discuss the opportunity with you further. If you can’t invest then you can show your support by signing up to our mailing list. We will send updates to let you know how the project is progressing.
